Thread Lift

Thread Lift

Have your cheeks and jawline started to sag, making you look more tired than you feel? A thread lift is a non-surgical lift that uses fine, dissolving threads under the skin to raise loose tissue and boost collagen. You see the lift straight away, without surgery, and it fades gradually as the threads dissolve.

Best for mild to moderate sagging of the cheeks, jowls, jawline and brows.

What can a thread lift help with?

Sagging cheeksA lifted, fresher mid-face.
Jowls and a soft jawlineA cleaner, better-defined jawline.
Low or heavy browsRaised, more open-looking brows.
Loose skin on the neckFirmer, smoother neck skin.

How does a thread lift work?

The threads are made of materials used in dissolvable stitches, usually polydioxanone (PDO) or poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Many have tiny barbs or cones that grip the tissue under the skin. Your body absorbs them slowly: PDO in about six to eight months, PLLA in about a year.

Your doctor slides the threads under the skin with a fine needle or cannula, then lifts the tissue into place. As the threads dissolve, they spark new collagen around them. A thread lift is not a facelift and can’t match surgery, but it gives a fresher, lifted look without one.

Who shouldn’t have a thread lift?

It isn’t suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an infection or active acne in the area, with a bleeding disorder, or for very loose, heavy skin, where surgery works better. Your doctor checks this at your consultation.

Your thread lift, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor checks how loose your skin is and plans the thread lines.
  2. Preparation: the skin is cleansed and numbed with a local anaesthetic.
  3. Treatment: threads placed through tiny entry points, taking 30–60 minutes.
  4. Follow-up: a check once swelling settles, to smooth any small dimples.
  5. Repeat: a new treatment once the lift has faded, if you wish.

Results and recovery

You see the lift straight away, and firmness keeps building as new collagen forms. In a review of 12 studies with 818 people, scores improved in every study straight after treatment, with only mild complications. The lift fades gradually over months as the threads dissolve.

Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common for one to two weeks. Small dimples or a tight feeling usually settle as the swelling goes down. Infection or a thread poking through the skin is uncommon.

Aftercare

  • Don’t rub or massage your face for 2 weeks
  • No gym, sauna or steam for a week
  • Avoid opening your mouth wide for 2 weeks
  • Sleep on your back for the first few nights

Thread lift: your questions answered

The price depends on the areas treated and how many threads you need. Your doctor walks you through the full price at your free consultation, before any treatment, so there are no surprises. Ask for the price of your whole plan, including the follow-up.

Yes, if you have mild to moderate sagging and want a visible lift without surgery. Reviews find it works straight away with a low risk of serious problems, though the lift is temporary. For heavy sagging, surgery works better; for gradual tightening without threads, try HIFU.

Most people find it very manageable. The skin is numbed with a local anaesthetic, so you feel pressure and tugging rather than pain. Your face can feel sore and tight for a few days afterwards.

You see the lift straight away, though swelling can hide it for the first week or two. Firmness keeps improving over the following months as new collagen forms around the threads.

The threads dissolve within about six months to a year, depending on the material, and the lift fades gradually over that time. Reviews say long-term results are not yet proven, so think of it as a temporary refresh you can repeat.

Yes. Serious problems are uncommon when a trained doctor does it, and reviews rate complications as mild. Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common. Small dimples, an uneven result or a visible thread can happen and can usually be corrected. Infection and nerve injury are rare.

A facelift is surgery that removes loose skin and gives a bigger, longer-lasting result. A thread lift has no cuts and far less downtime, with a smaller, temporary lift. It is ideal for early sagging, not heavy jowls.

Both dissolve and both spark new collagen. PDO threads are absorbed in about six to eight months and PLLA threads in about a year. Your doctor chooses the type and number of threads for your face.

The cheeks, jowls, jawline, brows and neck are the most common areas. For fat under the chin, double chin reduction usually works better, sometimes together with threads.

They do different jobs. A thread lift physically lifts sagging tissue. HIFU tightens skin gradually with ultrasound, and fillers restore lost volume. Many people combine them for a fuller refresh, and your doctor plans the mix for your face.

Usually within a few days: many people return to desk work once the swelling has eased. Bruising can take one to two weeks to fade, so plan around important events, and avoid hard exercise for a week.

Yes, with good planning. Have it at least four to six weeks before the day, so swelling, bruising and any small dimples have settled and your lifted look shines in photos. If it is your first time, start earlier so your doctor can fine-tune.
