PRP for Hair

Advanced PRP/PRF Treatment for Hairloss

Are you finding more hair on your pillow, your brush or the shower floor than you used to? PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a treatment that puts the growth factors in your own blood to work on weakening hair roots, so shedding slows and thinning hair grows fuller over three to six months.

Best for early thinning, a widening parting and heavier-than-usual shedding.

How does PRP work for hair loss?

A small amount of your blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is packed with platelets. Platelets carry growth factors that drive tissue repair, and placed in the scalp they help shrinking hair roots grow stronger hair and stay in their growth phase for longer.

Across 18 controlled trials, PRP raised hair density well above saline injections, with no serious side effects. Your doctor first finds what is behind your hair loss, such as thyroid problems, low iron, hormones, stress or genes, sometimes with blood tests. PRP can’t regrow a fully bald area.

Who shouldn’t have PRP for hair?

PRP isn’t right if you have a bleeding or platelet condition, take blood thinners, are having cancer treatment, have a scalp infection, or are pregnant. Your doctor runs through all of this at your consultation, so your treatment is safe from the start.

PRP for hair, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor examines your scalp, asks about your health and may order blood tests.
  2. Blood sample: blood is drawn from your arm, then spun to collect the platelet-rich plasma.
  3. Treatment: after numbing, PRP goes across the thinning areas; about 45–60 minutes in all.
  4. Course: usually 4 sessions, about a month apart.
  5. Top-up: one session every 3–6 months keeps your results going.

Results and recovery

Most people shed less within the first two to three months. Hair grows slowly and in cycles, so fuller hair shows at three to six months and keeps improving through the course. Top-ups every three to six months hold the gain, which otherwise fades gradually over the following year.

For a day or two your scalp can feel tender, tight or a little swollen, and a bruise may appear. Most people go back to work straight after their session.

Aftercare

  • Wait until the next day to wash your hair
  • No gym, sauna or steam for 24 hours
  • No hair dye or chemicals for a few days
  • Avoid ibuprofen for a few days

PRP: your questions answered

The price depends on how many sessions your scalp needs and whether PRP is paired with another treatment. You get a clear price at your free consultation, before treatment starts. Most people have four sessions, so ask what the full course costs.

Yes, for early thinning or heavy shedding. Reviews of dozens of trials found PRP improved hair density in both men and women, using nothing but your own blood. If your scalp is mainly oily or flaky instead, a Keravive scalp facial is the better fit.

Only a little sting. Your scalp is numbed first and the needles are very fine, so most people feel pressure and brief pricking. Having the blood taken feels like any routine blood test.

Most people shed less within two to three months. Fuller hair follows at three to six months, because each hair grows slowly and in cycles. Your doctor tracks your progress with photos along the way, so you can see the change.

With top-ups, your results keep going. In studies, hair density stayed above its starting point for many months, and a session every three to six months holds the gain. Treating the cause of your hair loss helps it last too.

Yes. It comes from your own blood, so an allergy is very unlikely, and reviews found no serious side effects. Tenderness and slight swelling are common for a day or two, and a bruise is possible. It isn’t suitable with blood or platelet disorders.

Yes. A review of 18 controlled trials found PRP added about 25.6 hairs per square centimetre compared with saline injections. It works on hair that is thinning, giving weak roots the push they need to grow fuller again.

Both are made from your own blood. PRGF is a specific way of preparing it that leaves out white blood cells and releases growth factors steadily. Both help thinning hair, and your doctor explains which suits you.

Yes. A review of 42 studies, covering 1,569 people, found PRP improved hair density in women with pattern thinning, often seen as a widening parting. Shedding after childbirth or illness often settles by itself.

No, and we don’t offer hair transplants. PRP works on the hair you still have, helping it grow fuller and fall less, but it can’t regrow a fully bald area. Your doctor tells you clearly what to expect.

Yes. It pairs well with scalp microneedling or a hair-loss medicine your doctor prescribes, such as minoxidil. Combining treatments often gives your roots more support than PRP alone, and your doctor plans the mix.

Yes, but start early. Begin four to six months ahead, giving the course time to end and new hair time to appear. Leave at least a week after your last session for any tenderness to fade.
