Microneedling RF

Microneedling RF

Are acne scars, open pores or loosening skin making your face look less smooth than you’d like? Microneedling RF is a collagen-building treatment that sends gentle radiofrequency heat through fine needles deep into the skin, so scars soften, pores look smaller and your skin firms up over a short course.

Best for acne scars, open pores, rough texture and early skin loosening.

What can Microneedling RF help with?

Acne scarsSofter, shallower scars over a course.
Open poresPores that look visibly smaller.
Rough, uneven textureA smoother, more even surface.
Mild loosening on the lower faceFirmer, tighter-feeling skin.

How does Microneedling RF work?

Fine needles, often coated to protect the surface, enter the skin to a depth your doctor sets, then release radiofrequency energy right at their tips. The heat tightens existing collagen and sets off a fresh wave of collagen and elastin, while the surface is largely spared.

Because the energy is electrical, not light, it doesn’t target the pigment in your skin. Studies show a far lower risk of dark marks than ablative lasers such as CO2, which makes it a smart choice for brown skin, even though those lasers can edge ahead on scars.

Who shouldn’t have Microneedling RF?

It isn’t suitable during pregnancy, with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, with an infection or active acne in the area, a tendency to keloid scars, or recent isotretinoin use. Your doctor checks this at your consultation.

Microneedling RF, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor checks your scars or skin and plans the depth and settings.
  2. Preparation: your skin is cleansed and numbed with cream for comfort.
  3. Treatment: the handpiece is passed over the area, taking about 20–40 minutes.
  4. Course: usually 3–4 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart.
  5. Results: scars and firmness keep improving for 3–6 months.

Results and recovery

Your skin can feel tighter within a few weeks, then scars, pores and firmness keep improving over three to six months as new collagen builds. Your doctor plans your course around your skin and the depth of your scars.

Redness and mild swelling usually settle within one to three days, and tiny grid marks can show briefly. Most people are back at work the next day. Temporary darkening is uncommon and fades.

Aftercare

  • No make-up for 24 hours
  • No gym, sauna or steam for 24–48 hours
  • Don’t pick or scrub the treated skin
  • Wear sunscreen every day

Microneedling RF: your questions answered

The price depends on the area, the depth of your scars and how many sessions you need. You’ll hear the full price at your free consultation, before any treatment. Most people need three or four sessions, so ask for the price of the whole course.

Yes, for acne scars, pores and early looseness. It is well studied, with short downtime and a far lower risk of dark marks than ablative lasers. It won’t lift heavier sagging; for that, a thread lift is the better option.

Some discomfort is normal, and numbing cream keeps it manageable. Most people feel heat and prickling with each pass, which studies rate mild to moderate. Your skin can feel warm for a few hours afterwards.

Tightening can show within a few weeks. Scars, pores and firmness keep improving, with the full result about three to six months after your last session, as new collagen matures.

The collagen you build is your own, so the improvement outlasts the course, while normal ageing carries on. Most studies follow people for six months to a year, and many people book a maintenance session about once a year.

Yes, in trained hands. Redness and swelling for one to three days are the most common effects, with brief grid marks. Temporary darkening is uncommon and usually fades; burns or scarring are rare and linked to incorrect settings.

Yes, it is a popular choice for brown skin. The heat doesn’t target skin pigment, and a review of trials found CO2 lasers carried about four times the risk of dark marks. Your doctor still tailors the settings to your skin.

Plain microneedling uses needles alone to trigger repair, ideal for fine lines and texture. Microneedling RF adds heat at the needle tips, which helps deeper acne scars and looser skin. Your doctor recommends the right one for you.

Both use radiofrequency heat to build collagen. Microneedling RF delivers it through needles placed inside the skin, making it the pick for deeper scars and looseness. Fractional Radio Frequency works closer to the surface, often for texture, fine lines and tone.

Yes. Acne scars respond especially well, and it also helps some pigmentation, such as melasma, as part of a wider plan. See RF microneedling for acne scars and RF microneedling for pigmentation.

Yes. Morpheus8 is a well-known brand of this treatment, made by InMode. Our clinics use Infini by Lutronic, which works the same way: insulated needles carry heat into the deeper skin to trigger collagen. The doctor’s depth and energy settings shape your result.

Yes, with a little planning. Begin four to six months before the day, so your course is finished and fresh collagen has had time to build. Book your last session at least four weeks before, so redness and grid marks have gone.
