Wart Removal

Tired of a rough wart on your finger that catches on everything, or a verruca that makes every step sore? Wart removal is doctor-led treatment that destroys the wart down to its root, by freezing, heat or laser, so smooth, healthy skin can grow back in its place, often within one or two visits.

What clears a wart?

Warts are caused by a common virus, HPV, which makes skin cells pile up into a firm, rough lump. They are harmless and often fade on their own, but that can take months or even years, and meanwhile they spread to new spots and other people.

Your doctor first pares away the hard top layer, then treats the wart: freezing with liquid nitrogen, electrocautery that burns it off under numbing, or laser for stubborn ones. In a Korean series of 348 patients treated with a long-pulsed laser, 96% of warts cleared.

When is wart treatment not right for you?

Genital warts aren’t treated at our clinics: your doctor will advise you privately and refer you to the right specialist, and a female doctor is available. Tell your doctor about diabetes, poor circulation, a weak immune system or pregnancy.

Clearing a wart, visit by visit

  1. Free consultation: at any of our 12 clinics; your doctor confirms each lump is a wart.
  2. Paring: the thick, hard skin on top is gently filed or trimmed away.
  3. Treatment: freezing, cautery or laser, a few minutes per wart, numbed where needed.
  4. Repeat visits: deep or stubborn warts often need 2–4 visits, 2–4 weeks apart.
  5. Stop the spread: simple habits at home keep new warts from forming.

Results, healing and keeping warts away

A treated wart darkens, crusts or blisters, then falls away within one to two weeks, leaving fresh pink skin. In the laser study, hand warts cleared after an average of 1.35 visits, while deep verrucas on the soles needed about two.

Because warts come from a virus, a new one can still appear later. Treat new warts early, while they are small and few, and they clear faster.

Aftercare

  • Don’t pick the blister or scab
  • Keep it clean, dry and covered
  • Use your own towel, socks and razor

Wart removal: your questions answered

It depends on how many warts you have, where they are, how deep they go and the visits needed: one small wart is a far smaller job than a cluster of verrucas. Send a WhatsApp photo for a first idea; your free consultation gives the full price.

Yes, if a wart hurts, spreads or embarrasses you. Left alone, warts can take years to fade, spreading meanwhile. A small wart that doesn’t bother you can wait. If the growth is soft and hangs from the skin, see skin tag removal instead.

Freezing stings for a few seconds, and the spot throbs for a while afterwards. For cautery or laser, the skin is numbed first. Verrucas on the sole are the most tender to treat, so your doctor works gently there.

Usually within one to two weeks, after a scab or blister forms. If a little wart remains, a repeat visit two to four weeks later finishes the job, and the new skin underneath is smooth.

A fully cleared wart usually stays gone: in the Korean laser series, only about 3% returned in the months after treatment. New warts can still appear because the virus is so common, so the at-home habits on this page really matter.

Yes, in a doctor’s hands. Expect soreness, and a blister or scab after freezing that heals in about a week. On brown skin, a paler or darker spot can stay for weeks or months. A small scar is uncommon, mostly after deeper methods.

Each works well in the right place. Freezing suits most hand warts and is quick. Cautery usually removes a wart in one numbed visit. Laser is the choice for stubborn warts and deep verrucas. Your doctor confirms which suits yours at the consultation.

Yes, with extra care. Flat warts are small, smooth and often many, and shaving spreads them along the beard line. The NHS advises against pharmacy wart products on the face, so leave these to a doctor. If your bumps are spots, see acne treatment.

They can, slowly: salicylic acid takes up to three months of daily use and works better on hands than feet. A Cochrane review found that adding freezing clears more warts than the acid alone, so your doctor often combines the two.

Yes, mildly. The virus spreads through close skin contact and damp floors, towels and razors, and a wart can take months to appear. Cover warts, don’t share towels or socks, and wear slippers around pools and changing rooms.

Yes. Many children’s warts fade without treatment, so your doctor can suggest waiting or a gentle home treatment first. Freezing stings, so dermatologists mainly use it for older children who can sit still, with a parent beside them.

Yes. Begin two months or more ahead, because some warts need two or three visits spaced weeks apart and the final scab needs time to heal. For warts on the hands, which show in mehndi photos, start earlier.
