Ageing Hands

Ageing Hands

Do your hands give away your age before your face does, with thin skin, raised veins or dark spots? Hand rejuvenation is a doctor-planned mix of treatments for the backs of the hands: fillers restore lost volume in one visit, while PRGF, lasers and peels renew thin skin and fade age spots, for smoother, younger-looking hands.

Best for visible veins and tendons, thin wrinkled skin and age spots.

What can hand rejuvenation help with?

Visible veins and tendonsFuller, softer backs of the hands.
Thin, wrinkled skinSmoother, better-hydrated skin.
Age spots and uneven toneFaded spots and a more even tone.
Rough, dry textureSoft, smooth-feeling skin.

How does hand rejuvenation work?

As hands age, they lose fat and the skin thins, so veins, tendons and bones show more, while years of sun add spots. Filler placed under the skin puts back that lost cushion straight away. The US FDA has approved dermal fillers for the backs of the hands.

For the skin itself, your doctor can add PRGF, made from your own blood and often given with microneedling, to refresh thin skin, plus a picosecond laser or chemical peel to fade age spots. Most plans combine two or three, and reviews show they work safely together, often for better results.

Who shouldn’t have hand rejuvenation?

It isn’t suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an infection, eczema flare or open cuts on the hands, or with joint, tendon or blood-vessel disease affecting the hand. Your doctor checks this at your consultation.

Hand rejuvenation, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor checks your hands and plans which treatments you need.
  2. Preparation: the skin is cleansed; numbing cream is applied for comfort.
  3. Treatment: filler, PRGF, laser or peel, taking 20–45 minutes.
  4. Course: fillers usually take one visit; skin treatments need a short course.
  5. Top-up: about every 6–12 months, depending on the treatment.

Results and recovery

Fillers make a difference straight away, and veins and tendons fade into the background once swelling settles. Skin treatments smooth and brighten over a few weeks. In a 12-month trial, most people treated with a hand filler kept their improvement for the whole year.

The backs of the hands can swell or feel stiff for a few days after fillers, and small bruises are common. Peels and lasers can leave mild redness or flaking for a few days.

Aftercare

  • No gym or heavy lifting for 24–48 hours
  • Keep your hands raised to ease swelling
  • Wear gloves for cleaning and washing up
  • Wear sunscreen on your hands every day

Hand rejuvenation: your questions answered

It depends on which treatments your hands need and how many sessions. Your doctor confirms the full price at your free consultation, before anything is done, so there are no surprises. Ask for the price of the whole plan.

If your hands look older than your face, yes. Fillers in particular give a clear, quick change, and people in studies are highly satisfied. If your main concern is darker skin on the hands and feet, hands and feet rejuvenation is the better fit.

Only a little. Numbing cream is used, and many fillers contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. You’ll feel small pinches with injections and some warmth with lasers, and most people find it very manageable.

Fillers work straight away, with the final look at about two weeks once swelling settles. PRGF, microneedling, lasers and peels build smoother, brighter skin over a course of a few weeks.

Filler results usually last six to twelve months or more, depending on the product, and in one trial most people kept their improvement for a full year. Skin treatments last several months, and daily sunscreen helps them last longer.

Yes, in the hands of a trained doctor. Studies report mostly mild, short-lived effects: swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness. After fillers, your hands can feel stiff or harder to use for a few days. Serious problems are rare.

It depends on what bothers you most. For visible veins and tendons, fillers restore volume. For thin skin, PRGF with microneedling refreshes it; see our PRGF treatment. For age spots, a picosecond laser or a peel is the go-to choice.

Yes. Filler placed under the thin skin on the back of the hand cushions it, so veins and tendons show far less. The veins stay where they are; they simply look softer and less raised.

Age spots come mostly from years of sun. A picosecond laser breaks up the pigment and fades them over a few sessions, and a glycolic acid peel helps too. Daily sunscreen on your hands helps prevent new spots and makes results last.

Yes, and most people do. Reviews show fillers, lasers and peels can be combined, often on the same day, without extra side effects. Your doctor plans the order that gets the most from each one.

Yes, it smooths texture and fine lines on the backs of the hands over a short course. Microneedling RF adds gentle heat to firm the skin. Neither adds volume, so they pair well with fillers.

Yes, and it’s lovely for mehndi and ring photos. Have fillers at least four weeks before the day, and start skin treatments two to three months earlier. Avoid a laser or peel in the final two weeks.
