Body HIFU

Body HIFU

After a baby or weight loss, has your tummy been left softer and looser, with a little fat that won’t budge? Body HIFU is a non-surgical body treatment: focused ultrasound heats chosen depths under your skin, so fresh collagen firms it and small fat pockets shrink, for a tighter, slimmer shape within about three months.

Best for loose skin and small fat pockets on the tummy, arms and thighs.

What can body HIFU help with?

Loose skin on the tummyFirmer, smoother tummy skin.
Soft upper armsTighter, neater-looking arms.
A small layer of tummy fatA slimmer, trimmer waist.
Loose skin on the thighs or above the kneesSmoother, firmer thighs.

How does body HIFU work?

On the body, a handpiece focuses ultrasound into tiny points of heat at depths your doctor chooses: shallower to tighten the collagen-rich layer of your skin, deeper to reach the fat beneath it. The surface stays intact, so there are no cuts and no needles.

Over the following weeks, your body replaces the heated collagen with new, firmer collagen and clears the treated fat cells. In a sham-controlled trial, waists were about 2.5 cm smaller 12 weeks after a single session. It works best on mild looseness; it isn’t a tummy tuck.

Who shouldn’t have body HIFU?

It isn’t for you if you are pregnant, have a hernia, metal implant or pacemaker near the area, or broken or infected skin there. Large amounts of fat or very loose skin need another approach. Your doctor checks this at your consultation.

Body HIFU, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor examines your skin and fat and chooses the depths.
  2. Preparation: the area is cleansed and marked, and ultrasound gel is applied.
  3. Treatment: rows of ultrasound pulses over each body area, in 30–60 minutes.
  4. Course: usually 2–4 sessions, 4 weeks apart.
  5. Results: firmer skin and a slimmer shape build over about three months.

Results and recovery

Your skin can feel tighter straight after a session, and the real change builds over the next two to three months as collagen renews and treated fat is cleared. Keep your weight steady and have a yearly top-up to hold on to your new shape.

Redness and swelling settle within hours to days. The area can feel tender or bruised for a week or two; numb patches are uncommon and fade. You can go back to work the same day.

Aftercare

  • Light exercise is fine; skip sauna for 2 days
  • Tenderness can last 1–2 weeks; be gentle
  • Drink plenty of water during your course
  • Protect treated arms and legs from strong sun

Body HIFU: your questions answered

It depends on which body areas you treat, such as the tummy, arms or thighs, and how many sessions you need. Your doctor confirms the full price at your free consultation, before anything is done. Most people have two to four sessions, so ask for the whole course.

For mildly loose skin and small fat pockets, yes: it firms skin and trims fat together, with almost no downtime. It isn’t weight loss, and very loose skin needs surgery. For a stubborn bulge of fat, fat freezing does more.

You’ll feel short, deep pulses of heat with a prickling feeling, stronger where the skin is thin or over bone. Numbing cream helps, and your doctor turns the energy down whenever you need. The tummy usually feels easier than the arms.

You can feel some tightening at once. The main change, firmer skin and a slimmer shape, shows over two to three months, and collagen keeps building for a while after your course ends.

Treated fat cells don’t come back, and the new collagen lasts many months. Skin keeps ageing and weight can change, so a steady weight and a top-up session about once a year keep your result looking its best.

Yes, when a trained doctor sets the right depth and energy. Redness, swelling, tenderness and some bruising are the usual effects and fade within days to two weeks. Numbness is uncommon and burns are rare. It isn’t done in pregnancy.

Yes, for mild to moderate looseness once your body has recovered from the birth, leaving tummy skin firmer and smoother. It doesn’t treat stretch marks; for those, see stretch marks reduction.

Both use heat to firm skin. Body HIFU focuses ultrasound into points at set depths, reaching fat as well as skin, in a few sessions. Body radiofrequency warms the skin evenly over a longer course. Your doctor advises which suits you.

For a pinchable bulge of fat, fat freezing has more research behind it. Body HIFU shines on a thinner layer of fat with some loose skin, because it tightens and slims at the same time.

It is the same technology, set up for the body, with deeper settings that cover larger areas. To lift the jaw, cheeks and brows, see HIFU facelift.

Usually two to four, four weeks apart, depending on the area and how loose the skin is. Your doctor plans this with you, and a yearly top-up keeps your results going.

Yes, with a little planning. Book your first session five or six months ahead, so you finish the course and the three-month result is showing on the day. Avoid the last two weeks, while tenderness or bruising could still be there.
