What is lifestyle coaching and how does it work?
Lifestyle coaching is the behavioural weight management that NICE recommends, combining diet, activity and behaviour change. Your dietitian or coach looks at what you eat, how active you are, how you sleep and what triggers overeating, then sets small, specific goals with you. Regular check-ins, food and weight tracking, and solving problems together make the changes stick, with our doctors on hand if you need medical help.
Lifestyle coaching benefits
- A diet plan you can keep: built around your routine and your family’s food.
- A safe, steady pace: about half a kilo to a kilo a week, without crash diets.
- Habits that last: eating, movement and sleep changes that keep the weight off.
- Someone in your corner: regular check-ins to solve problems as they come up.
- Doctor-backed: medical options added only if you need them.
- No needles, no downtime: nothing to recover from, just a better routine.
Can you lose weight without injections?
Yes. Many people reach a healthier weight with coaching alone, and it is the first step for everyone, because every weight-loss medicine is meant to be used alongside diet and activity. If your BMI is high or your weight is affecting your health, and steady changes aren’t enough, our doctor can talk you through adding a prescription injection to your plan, with your coach still beside you.
Lifestyle coaching before and after
The change is gradual rather than dramatic: the NHS suggests aiming for about 0.5 to 1 kg a week. In a review of 27 trials, adults on behavioural weight-loss programmes were on average 2.3 kg lighter after a year than those without one. Many people also notice more energy, better fitness and healthier blood pressure along the way.
Is lifestyle coaching free?
Your lifestyle consultation is free, with no obligation, at all 12 of our clinics. A dietitian or lifestyle coach goes through your weight history and routine, records your weight, waist and BMI, and sets out a plan. Coaching comes with every weight loss injection we prescribe, such as semaglutide injection or tirzepatide injection. Coaching on its own is free too, so you can start without injections and decide later.
Who shouldn’t rely on lifestyle coaching alone?
Coaching suits most adults, but it doesn’t replace medical care. If you are pregnant, have an eating disorder, take medicines for diabetes or have another serious condition, our doctor or your own specialist guides your plan first.
Your lifestyle coaching, step by step
- Free consultation: we talk through your weight history, health, routine and goals.
- Assessment: we record your starting weight, waist and how you eat, move and sleep.
- Your plan: two or three small, realistic goals for food, activity and sleep.
- Check-ins: regular sessions to review progress, solve problems and set new goals.
- Maintenance: lighter support once you reach your goal, to keep the weight off.
Results and what to expect
You lose weight at a steady, healthy pace, with no downtime, and each small habit builds on the last. Most of the work happens between visits, at home and at work, and the plan is adjusted as you go. Staying in touch once you reach your goal makes regaining weight less likely, which is why the maintenance phase matters as much as the start.
