Mole Removal

Mole Removal

Is there a raised mole on your face that catches the razor, or one you are tired of covering with make-up? Mole removal is a short, doctor-led procedure: your doctor checks the mole first, numbs the skin and removes it in a single visit, leaving a small mark that fades as it heals.

Best for harmless raised moles on the face, neck and body that bother you.

How is a mole removed safely?

Most moles are harmless clusters of pigment cells. Before anything is removed, your doctor examines the mole closely using the ABCDE checklist dermatologists rely on to spot melanoma: Asymmetry, an uneven Border, more than one Colour, a Diameter over 6mm, and Evolving, meaning any change.

A harmless mole is then numbed and removed: a fine surgical shave suits many raised moles and needs no stitches, while a flat or deeper mole is cut out and closed with a few stitches. Your doctor confirms the method for your mole at the consultation, and sends it for lab testing when needed.

When shouldn’t a mole be removed?

A mole that has changed, bleeds, itches or shows any ABCDE sign isn’t removed for looks: it is referred for testing first. Tell your doctor about pregnancy, blood thinners, a pacemaker, keloid scars or slow healing.

Your mole removal visit, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor examines each mole you want removed, using the ABCDE checks.
  2. Decision: a harmless mole is planned for removal; a suspicious one is referred for testing instead.
  3. Numbing: a tiny local anaesthetic injection, so you feel pressure rather than pain.
  4. Removal: a shave or small cut-out, a few minutes per mole, then a dressing.
  5. Healing: a scab or stitches for one to two weeks; the mark keeps fading for months.

Healing and the scar

The mole is gone the same day. A shaved spot forms a scab that falls away in one to two weeks; stitches, if used, come out within a week or two. The pink mark then flattens and fades over the following months.

Every removal leaves a mark, usually small and flat, sometimes paler or darker on brown skin. If colour ever reappears in the spot, show your doctor: regrowth is always checked, never ignored.

Aftercare

  • Keep the dressing on and dry for 24 hours
  • Clean gently; let the scab fall off
  • SPF 30+ on the healing mark for months
  • No swimming until the skin has healed

Mole removal: your questions answered

There is no fixed price, because no two moles are alike: size, depth, position and the removal method all count. All 12 of our clinics offer mole removal, and you hear the full price at your free consultation, once your doctor has examined each mole.

If a mole catches, bleeds when you shave or knocks your confidence, most people find it is: one short visit and it’s gone. If a small mark would bother you more than the mole, leave it. For flat brown spots, pigmentation treatment suits better.

Only the numbing injection, which stings for a few seconds. After that you feel pressure while the mole is removed, not pain. The spot can feel tender for a day or two, and paracetamol is usually enough.

Straight away: it is removed during your visit. A scab forms and falls away within one to two weeks, and the pink mark that follows keeps fading and softening for several months.

Most removed moles don’t return. A shaved mole can leave a few pigment cells deeper down, so some colour can reappear in the scar, more often with hairy moles. Show your doctor any regrowth, because a returning mole always needs a check.

Yes, when an aesthetic-trained doctor checks the mole first and works with sterile tools. Expect tenderness, a little bleeding under the dressing and a scab. Infection is uncommon. The scar can be paler or darker than your skin; if you form keloids, say so first.

With the ABCDE signs: an uneven shape, a ragged border, several colours, a size over 6mm, or any change. A mole that bleeds, itches or is new in adulthood also gets a closer look. Soft, hanging growths are usually skin tags instead.

Yes. Send a clear, close photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether to book and what to expect. A photo can’t clear a mole medically, so every mole is still examined in person before anything is removed.

Dermatology experts advise sending removed moles to a laboratory, where a specialist checks the cells under a microscope. Your doctor arranges this whenever a mole needs it, explains the result to you, and refers any worrying mole to a specialist.

Please don’t. Cutting, burning or using mole-removal creams at home can scar the skin and cause infection, and dermatologists warn that if the mole holds cancer cells, some can be left behind and the diagnosis delayed.

Face moles are among the ones we remove most often. Your doctor follows your natural skin lines and uses the gentlest method for the spot, so the mark stays small and fades well. If you prefer a female doctor, just ask when you book.

Yes, but book early. Have it removed at least six to eight weeks before the day, so the scab has gone and the mark is easy to cover with make-up. For a mole on the face, two to three months ahead is ideal.
