What is PRGF?
PRGF stands for Plasma Rich in Growth Factors. A small sample of your blood is taken and processed to collect the part of the plasma that is richest in platelets. Platelets carry natural growth factors that help repair and stimulate cells. Injected into the scalp, they support hair follicles that are shrinking or resting, helping them to grow stronger, thicker hair for longer.
What is PRGF Fusion?
PRGF Fusion is Cutera’s signature version of the treatment. Your own PRGF is combined with additional growth factors and hair-nourishing vitamins, chosen by your doctor for your scalp, to give weakened follicles an extra boost. PRGF vs PRP: what’s the difference?
Both treatments come from your own blood. PRGF is prepared with a more controlled process: it collects a defined, platelet-rich fraction of plasma and leaves out the white blood cells, which can trigger inflammation. The plasma is then activated so that its growth factors are released steadily. The result is a purer, more consistent concentrate. We also offer standard PRP for hair loss, and your doctor will recommend the right option for you.

PRGF works by reviving weak follicles, so it cannot regrow hair where follicles have completely gone. It is not suitable with certain blood disorders, a low platelet count, an active scalp infection, or during pregnancy. Hair loss can also be linked to thyroid problems, low iron or vitamin deficiencies, so your doctor may suggest blood tests first.
Your PRGF treatment, step by step
- Free consultation: your doctor examines your scalp and hair, discusses your history and plans your course.
- Blood sample: a small amount of blood is taken from your arm, just like a routine blood test.
- Preparation: the sample is processed to obtain your PRGF.
- Treatment: after numbing, PRGF is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. The whole visit takes about an hour.
- Course: most people have three to four sessions about a month apart, followed by maintenance every four to six months.
Results
Many people notice less hair fall within the first few weeks. Because hair grows in cycles, visible thickening usually shows from around three months, with the best results after the full course. Results vary from person to person, and maintenance sessions help keep them going.

Aftercare
The scalp may feel tender or look slightly red for a day. Most people return to normal activities straight away.

- Skip heavy exercise, saunas and steam for 24 hours
- Avoid hair dye, chemical treatments and heat styling for a few days
- Avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen for a few days; paracetamol is fine if needed
