What is tirzepatide injection and how does it work?

Tirzepatide injection is a weekly prescription medicine that copies two hormones your gut releases after a meal, GLP-1 and GIP. Together they help you feel full sooner, slow how fast your stomach empties and steady your blood sugar, so cravings quieten and smaller portions feel like enough. It is the same active medicine as Mounjaro and Zepbound, Eli Lilly’s brands; the tirzepatide we prescribe is not made by Eli Lilly but is a DRAP-registered product from a leading pharmaceutical company. It works alongside eating and activity coaching, never instead of it.

Tirzepatide injection benefits

  • Clear pricing: you pay per weekly dose, from Rs 12,495, the same at every clinic.
  • DRAP-registered: a registered product from a leading pharmaceutical company.
  • Dual action: works on two appetite hormones, GLP-1 and GIP.
  • Fewer cravings: smaller meals satisfy you and snacking eases.
  • One dose a week: a quick injection, with no downtime.
  • Never on your own: doctor reviews and lifestyle coaching throughout.

Tirzepatide for weight loss: who is it for?

It is for adults whose weight affects their health, not for shedding a few kilos before an event. Licences abroad cover a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related problem such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or sleep apnoea. Because health risks start at a lower weight for South Asian people, UK guidelines use lower cut-offs for them, with obesity from a BMI of 27.5. It suits men and women alike, and your doctor looks at your waist, blood sugar and blood pressure as well as the number on the scale.

Tirzepatide before and after

Expect steady change over months rather than a sudden drop: the first four weeks are a low starting dose while your body adjusts. In SURMOUNT-1, which followed 2,539 adults for 72 weeks, those on tirzepatide lost 15–21% of their body weight on average, depending on the dose, against about 3% on a dummy injection; results varied from person to person. At every review we record your weight and waist, so you can follow your own before and after.

Who shouldn’t have tirzepatide?

It isn’t prescribed in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or if you or a close relative has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 syndrome. Past pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, severe stomach-emptying problems, or diabetes medicines that can cause low blood sugar all need a careful review first. If you take the contraceptive pill, add condoms or switch to a non-pill method for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose rise.

Your tirzepatide treatment, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your weight history and goals, with your weight, waist and BMI recorded.
  2. Doctor’s review: your health, medicines and any tests; prescribed only if it suits you and is safe for you.
  3. Starting dose: 2.5 mg once a week for four weeks, injected under the skin of the tummy, thigh or upper arm.
  4. Stepping up: raised by 2.5 mg no sooner than every four weeks, to the dose that works for you.
  5. Check-ins and coaching: weight, waist and side effects reviewed, with lifestyle coaching alongside.

Results and side effects

Hunger often eases within the first weeks, and weight comes off steadily as your dose is stepped up. The usual side effects are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting and indigestion, mostly after starting and after each increase, and they tend to settle; eating smaller meals slowly helps. Rarely, it can cause pancreatitis, gallstones or dehydration, so contact us at once about severe stomach pain that won’t settle. Weight can return after stopping, so your doctor plans the step down with you.

Aftercare

  • Eat smaller meals and stop when full

Tirzepatide injection: your questions answered

Tirzepatide injection costs Rs 12,495 for a 2.5 mg dose, Rs 14,995 for 5 mg, Rs 17,495 for 7.5 mg and Rs 19,995 for 10 mg. With one dose a week, the first month at the starting dose comes to Rs 49,980. Prices are the same in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and all our cities, and your consultation is free.

It is the same active medicine. Mounjaro is Eli Lilly’s brand of tirzepatide; the tirzepatide injection we prescribe is a DRAP-registered product from a leading pharmaceutical company, so it is not Mounjaro and is not made by Eli Lilly. It works the same way, with the same weekly dose steps, and your doctor tells you exactly which product you receive.

Tirzepatide, the active medicine in Mounjaro, is also made by other pharmaceutical companies and sold in Pakistan under their own brand names. Whichever you are offered, make sure it is DRAP-registered and prescribed after a doctor’s review, as ours is. Avoid unlabelled vials, “research” or “compounded” tirzepatide, and anything sold through social media.

Tirzepatide injection is available at all 12 Cutera Aesthetics clinics in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Hyderabad and Sialkot, at the same price everywhere, with female doctors at every clinic. Find your nearest clinic, or message us on WhatsApp and we’ll book your free consultation at the one closest to you.

It is well studied, with thousands of adults in its trials, but it has real risks, so a doctor must supervise it. Nausea, diarrhoea or constipation are common after the first dose and each increase, then usually ease. Rarer risks include pancreatitis and gallstones, plus a thyroid tumour warning from rat studies. Use only a registered product, never an unlabelled one.

For weight loss, tirzepatide is the stronger medicine: in the SURMOUNT-5 head-to-head trial, run by its original maker, people lost 20.2% of their weight over 72 weeks, against 13.7% on semaglutide. Side effects were similar, mostly stomach upsets. Semaglutide injection costs less per dose, so your doctor weighs results, tolerance and budget with you.

One injection a week, usually for many months: the main trials ran for 72 weeks. Hunger often eases in the first weeks, but the first month is a low starting dose, so early weight loss is modest; it builds as the dose rises. Your doctor reviews your progress before every step up.

Men and women both lost weight in its trials, and it works the same way in both. With PCOS or weight gain around menopause, it can help you lose weight, which often eases PCOS symptoms too, but it isn’t licensed for those conditions specifically, so your doctor reviews your health and medicines before prescribing.

No licensed tirzepatide tablet exists: it comes only as a once-weekly injection, so be wary of “tirzepatide tablets” sold online. If you would rather avoid injections, talk to your doctor about other options, including lifestyle coaching on its own.

Appetite usually comes back, and so can the weight. In the SURMOUNT-4 trial, people moved to a dummy injection after 36 weeks regained much of their lost weight over the next year, while those who stayed on it kept losing. So we plan the step down with you, and keep coaching the habits that protect your result.
