BB Glow Facial

BB Glow Facial

Do you wish your skin looked even and glowing before you even reach for foundation? A BB Glow facial is a cosmetic treatment that uses fine microneedling to place a tinted serum into the top layer of skin, giving you a soft, foundation-like glow from the first session that fades gently over a few months.

Best for mildly uneven tone, when you want a soft, make-up-like glow for a few months.

Wanting less daily make-upA light base that softens over the months.

How does BB Glow work?

Your doctor uses a fine microneedling pen to open tiny channels in the surface of the skin, then works a tinted serum into them. The tint settles in the skin like a light foundation, while the needling itself freshens up your skin’s texture.

The effect is temporary and cosmetic: it covers uneven tone rather than treating its cause. The US FDA has not approved any colour pigments for putting into the skin, or microneedling for delivering cosmetics, so your doctor talks you through this before you decide.

Who shouldn’t have BB Glow?

It isn’t suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active acne, an infection or broken skin, if you scar or form keloids easily, if your skin darkens easily after injury, or if you react to any serum ingredient.

BB Glow treatment, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor checks your skin and talks you through gentler options too.
  2. Patch test: a small test spot first, to see how your skin reacts.
  3. Treatment: numbing cream, then fine microneedling with the tinted serum, about 45–60 minutes.
  4. Course: usually 3–5 sessions, 1–2 weeks apart.
  5. Top-up: only if you still want it once the tint has faded.

Results and recovery

Your skin looks more even and glowing straight away, and the tone builds a little with every session. The tint is temporary and fades gradually over a few months; how evenly it fades varies from person to person.

Redness and mild tenderness usually settle within a day or two. Less commonly, skin can react to the serum or change colour unevenly, so tell us about any lasting redness, bumps or patches.

Aftercare

  • No make-up for 24 hours
  • No gym, sauna or steam for 24–48 hours
  • Don’t rub, scrub or pick the skin
  • Wear sunscreen every day

BB Glow: your questions answered

The price depends on how many sessions your skin needs, and your doctor tells you the full figure at your free consultation, before anything is done. BB Glow is usually a course of three to five sessions, so ask for the price of the whole course.

It is a lovely choice if you want a soft, cosmetic tint for a few months rather than a treatment for pigmentation. If you want uneven tone itself to improve, a glycolic peel or microneedling for pigmentation is the better route.

It feels mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. Numbing cream goes on first, and most people feel only light scratching or vibration as the pen moves over the skin.

Straight after your first session, you see a soft, even glow. The coverage then builds a little with each visit over a course of three to five sessions.

It is temporary. The tint fades gradually, usually over a few months, as your skin renews itself. How long yours lasts depends on your skin, sun exposure and your skincare.

Most people have only redness and tenderness for a day or two. Less commonly, skin reacts to the serum or the colour changes unevenly. Long-term studies are lacking, so your doctor patch-tests first and checks it suits your skin.

No. The US FDA has not approved any colour pigments for putting into the skin, and microneedling devices are not approved to deliver cosmetic serums. We tell you this openly so you can decide with your doctor.

Many people find they can wear lighter make-up for a while, as the tint gives a soft, even base. It isn’t full coverage and it fades, so for events you may still want concealer or make-up.

BB Glow adds a soft, temporary tint over your own tone. A Hydrafacial or a pumpkin and papaya peel brightens the skin itself, with no pigment involved. Your doctor can suggest the gentler option for your goals.

It softens how they look for a while, but it doesn’t treat them, and needling can sometimes trigger dark marks in skin that pigments easily. Your doctor may suggest picosecond laser or another pigment plan instead.

Usually three to five, one to two weeks apart. If your main goal is an all-over glow rather than more even tone, see BB Glow for a glowing complexion.

Yes, with a little planning. Have a patch test and your first session at least two months before, so you know how your skin responds, and finish a week or two before the day, once redness has fully settled.
