PRGF Hair Treatment for Hair Fall: A Patient’s Story

PRGF Hair Treatment for Hair Fall: A Patient’s Story

PRGF, or plasma rich in growth factors, uses a prepared part of your own blood, placed into thinning areas of the scalp. PRGF Fusion adds scalp microneedling, extra growth factors and vitamins in the same session. Below is how one patient described having it. It is one person’s experience, and it isn’t a promise of your result.

What one patient told us on video

This patient had lived with thinning hair for years. They had spent a lot on shampoos, oils and other products without seeing a difference, and seeing their hair each morning had knocked their confidence. They came across PRGF Fusion through reviews on social media, and liked the idea of using their own plasma.

They started with a free consultation, where the team explained how the treatment works. They found the sessions quick, with little discomfort: a small blood sample was taken and prepared, then injected into the scalp.

After a few sessions, they noticed subtle changes. They said their hair felt thicker and healthier, that they had less hair fall, and that they could see new growth in areas that had been thinning for years. Their confidence started to return.

What the research says

Results vary, and the studies of PRGF for hair are encouraging but small.

  • In a pilot study of 19 people with pattern hair loss, five PRGF injections improved hair density and thickness at one year. The authors include staff of the institute that developed PRGF, and they call for randomised trials.1
  • In a study of 13 people, one injection raised hair counts by 9–54% and thickness by 11–76%. Three injections did better, and no side effects were reported.2
  • On platelet treatments for hair in general, a 2025 review of randomised trials found about 28 more hairs per square centimetre than placebo, across 18 trials and 883 people. This covers PRP as a whole, its authors come from the same institute, and results differed widely between trials.3

We found no large trial of PRGF Fusion itself. Separately, effective treatment for hair loss begins with finding the cause, and the earlier it starts, the better the chance of regrowth.4 No hair loss treatment is fully effective.5

What does a course usually involve?

Most people need three to four sessions, about a month apart. Sessions take about 30 minutes, with the scalp numbed first. Expect mild stinging, and your scalp may feel tender or look a little red for a day.

Thicker hair starts to show at around three months. Hair loss from genes or hormones carries on in the background, so an upkeep session every four to six months keeps your gains going. PRGF thickens thinning hair where roots are still alive, and it can’t regrow a fully bald area.

Who shouldn’t have it?

PRGF isn’t suitable with a blood or platelet disorder, an active scalp infection, during cancer treatment or in pregnancy, and you should tell your doctor if you take blood thinners. Hair fall often comes from thyroid problems or low iron, so your doctor may suggest simple blood tests first.
