Infini RF Microneedling for Pigmentation

Has melasma or a patchy, uneven tone stayed put despite creams and sunscreen? Infini RF is a radiofrequency microneedling device that warms the deeper skin through insulated needles, smoothing texture, building collagen and calming melasma as part of a wider plan, with a low risk of new dark marks in brown skin.

Freckles and sun spotsSofter overall tone; a laser fades the spots.

How can Infini RF help pigmentation?

Melasma isn’t only extra pigment on the surface. Research shows the deeper skin changes too, with a weakened support layer and ageing cells that keep pigment cells overactive. Infini’s 49 insulated needles deliver heat right into that deeper layer, at a depth your doctor chooses, while the surface is largely spared.

Because it works with heat rather than light, Infini doesn’t aim at pigment directly, so it is less likely to set off new dark marks in brown skin. It also refines texture and builds collagen, so your skin looks smoother as well as more even.

Who shouldn’t have Infini RF for pigmentation?

Infini RF isn’t for you during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with a pacemaker or implanted electrical device, broken or infected skin on the face, or keloid scars. Your doctor checks this at your consultation.

Infini RF for pigmentation, step by step

  1. Free consultation: your doctor examines the pigment, sometimes under a special lamp, to see how deep it lies.
  2. Preparation: daily sunscreen and any prescribed cream start first; numbing cream goes on the day.
  3. Treatment: gentler, shallower settings across the patches, taking about 20–40 minutes.
  4. Course: usually 3–4 sessions, about a month apart.
  5. Maintenance: sunscreen every day, and a top-up if patches begin to return.

Pigmentation results and recovery

Your skin brightens first, then patches lighten over the course. In a 2026 study of 50 people with melasma treated with a similar insulated-needle device, patches were about a third lighter on average after a median of three monthly sessions, and 84% had brighter skin.

Redness usually fades within hours to a few days. Melasma can come back, especially with sun exposure, so daily sunscreen and occasional maintenance sessions keep your results going.

Infini RF: your questions answered

The price depends on the area treated, how many sessions you need and whether creams or other treatments are part of your plan. You get a quote for the full course at your free consultation, before any treatment.

Yes, if you have melasma together with dull, rough texture, or pigment that flares easily after lasers: it lightens patches and smooths skin in one treatment. For freckles, sun spots or clear brown marks, our freckles and pigmentation treatment is a better fit.

It feels like warm prickling, and numbing cream goes on first. Settings for pigmentation are gentler and shallower than for deep acne scars, and in melasma studies people rated pain at just 2 to 4 out of 10.

Your skin often looks brighter and smoother within weeks. Melasma lightens over two or three monthly sessions, and your doctor compares photos to track your progress before deciding whether you need more.

That depends on your triggers. Melasma is long-term and often returns with sun, hormones or stress. Studies followed people for up to six months, and daily sunscreen and maintenance sessions keep patches lighter for longer.

Yes, in trained hands, and it is a popular choice for brown skin because the heat doesn’t target pigment. Expect redness for hours to a few days. Across melasma studies, new dark patches after RF microneedling were uncommon.

No treatment can promise that, but RF microneedling lightens melasma for many people and works best alongside sunscreen and prescribed creams. Most of this research used similar RF devices. Expect patches that look clearly lighter, with top-ups to keep them that way.

A picosecond laser targets pigment itself, so it suits freckles, sun spots and many brown marks. Infini works on the deeper skin and texture, with a lower risk of dark marks. Some plans use both, at different visits.

Same technology, different maker. Morpheus8 is InMode’s brand of RF microneedling; Infini, made by Lutronic, likewise sends radiofrequency heat through insulated needles into the deeper skin to build new collagen. We use Infini, and for melasma your doctor’s gentle, shallow settings matter most.

Yes, acne scars are where Infini has its strongest evidence. If dents from old acne bother you more than colour, see Infini RF for acne scars. For the treatment in general, see Microneedling RF.

Yes, and it often is. Studies paired RF microneedling with low-dose laser toning, tranexamic acid or lightening creams, and the combinations lightened melasma more than one treatment alone. Your doctor plans the order and spacing.

Yes, with a little planning, as melasma lightens over months. Start three to four months ahead so a short course fits in, book your final session at least three weeks before the day, and protect your skin from the sun right up to it.
